                                                                                                               Meeting Myself Series

I acknowledge my past and present self through the creative process. Agony of self awareness created in a voice of optimism for potential. I create as a tool to understand my subconscious emotion and comprehension of my constant developing identity. As a born and raised African American, Muslim, Woman I  was groomed into who I was “suppose to” be. With that approach comes a lot of struggle in understanding and allowing exploration or trust in my natural desires and curiosity. Using color theory, I create these spaces of conversations with my conscious body communicating with my subconscious in a vibrant tone. Presenting passionate emotion of  love, anger, light and reflection with colors such as red, yellow and silver. The use of multiple media as a tool that allows me to be just as explorative in discovering my feelings.  As I struggle with being present these tools allow me to acknowledge the pains. anxieties and absences I existed in. Using various mediums has allowed me to open myself up to the concept of trusting the process within my personal journey. Supporting my consistent use of depicting figures, I have always been creating myself within these works. Approached in a shy under developed identity is very tellingly by the body language illustrated. Accompanied by strong pattern presence to fulfill my innate spirit but also amplifying the texture of identity. My works host a conversation with my conscious body communicating to my subconscious.
